The Seven Wonders Sonnet

The Seven Wonders Sonnet

What could the former wits of old worlds say?
Even if Phidias had known thee well,
How could he cut stone to thy graces convey,
When serenity thy banks doth o'erswell?
What son of Hyperion had thy mirth?
What Pharos could harbor all of thy light?
What Carian Vault could entomb thy worth?
What Babylon better thy words delight?
What temple of moon on Aegean site
Or monument rising along unstanch-ed Nile
Could ever canopy thy frame in flight
Or house or hold the bold winds of thy style?
Character nine wonders to mend the book,
For thy image demands a second look.

WILL YOU WILL YOU WON MY LOVE

DO YA is an Electric Light Orchestra's song, from the album A New World Record
This is SHAKESPEARE KARAOKE in progress:

WILL YOU
WILL YOU
WON MY LOVE

Welllll, In this life I've read everything I could read, sirrah.

I was marked by Twain and Edgar Allan Poe,

I seen people change for the precious ring,

And I read about turning and turning in a big fat gyre.

I read the about the girl who had a tattoo,

And Bickerstaff's recipe for baby ragout,

But I...I...I never read nothing like you.

CHORUS:

Will you, Will you won my love,
(My Liege!)

Will you, Will you won my eyes,
(Tennis balls!)

Will you, Will you won my mind,
(Upstart!)

Will you, Will you won my love,
(Anon now!)

TOUJOURS PERDIX

Toujours Perdix

Fleuve de vinaigre
Mer de huile
Sang froid! Sang froid!
Toujours perdix!

We make the salad
Of everybody.
In cold blood, cold blood.
Woe are we.

Cri di coeur
Sang froid
Too much good
Toujours perdix

Aimez-vous la salade?
Aimez-vous nager
Dans sang froid?
Toujours, toujours perdix.

Do you like salad?
Do you like to swim
In cold blood, cold blood?
Too much of a good thing.

Beaucoup fini
C'est la vie
Toujours, toujours
Toujours perdix.

Many finish
What do you care?
Always, always
Too much.

OUT OF IRELAND

OUT OF IRELAND

"Di, di, sicuramente, e credi come a dii."
~ Dante's Paradiso: Canto 5

"I am of Ireland, And the Holy Land of Ireland, And Time Runs On."
~W. B. Yeats

I am of Florida
Long and restless
Driven by St. Patrick
Out of Ireland
Far from my Yeats
To the land of pirates.

Come out of the unholy trinity
Of gluttony, avarice and lust
Come for a touch of my caduceus
Time stands still and ever will
Again and again we shall rise alone
Undiscovered by Juan Ponce de Leon.

I am of Florida
Long and restless
Far from my Yeats I sing
Silent songs of Spanish moss
And conquistadores loss
Weeping in oak canopies
To rivers that live underground
Seeping in the limestone
Of my sunken Atlantis.

Come with me to the sandbar
To eat the meat we're made of
With fake mustache and ritual love
Dressed up as Jose Gaspar.

I am the halyards of the dead
Snapping in the fairy winds
Where any man can lose his head
And decay cracks the mast.

I am the sponge diver's hose
Torn by the teeth of friends
And the ghost ships returning
From the unrepentant past.

I am of Florida
Long and restless
Homesick for my Yeats
Longing to cede
To my pirates and missionaries
Time so still it does not measure.
We who are in eternity
Coiled around the banyan trees
Waited in vain for de Leon
To sip our serpent treasure.

Come dance with me
On zephyr hills
Where fairy lilies bloom and whisper
Names of murdered Seminoles
And pines cry of the cowardly kills.

Come call it charity
And dance with me
I hunt for you in endless shoals
To take you down in low water
Between cypress knees that rise
Like stalagmites of the forbidden fountain
Where you will drink in torrid dreams
The ice cold venom of immortality.

I am of Florida
Time is still
Tangled in wet sheets
Abandoned by Sweet Ireland
Cursed by St. Patrick
Far, too far,  from Master Yeats.

Come from gluttony, avarice and lust
Come take strong hold of my caduceus
Come with me and see like Tiresias
Blinded and in festival garb to savor my frights
Southern comforts siphoned
On wretched humid nights
We shed sticky sheets like second skins
And drape them in the lynching trees.

A lovely coral necklace for you
Black and red and yellow
A silver king tarpon
To reflect the pink Atlantic dawn
Water moccasins for your tender feet
Opens wide my most seductive yawn.

I am of Florida
Opens wide my cotton mouth
Exiled from Ireland
Far from my Yeats
Enter the rotten history
Of my beloved South.

YOUR GIRL

YOUR GIRL

I take your girl away.
I take your girl from you.
Like a beast in the forest,
I do as I please.

I walk on wooden stilts.
She opens her window to watch.
We ride an elephant named Ichor
Out of the crowded city.

UAXACLAJUUN UB'AAH K'AWIIL

Dieciocho Conejo

( 18 Rabbit )

Surely the corn will grow today

Our livers glisten

Arranged just so on the tray

Hacemos sacrificios

Surely the corn will grow now

Our gizzards are fresh and quiver

 With great pain and sacrifice

The earth is rich with our blood

18 Rabbit is satisfied

Surely now the corn will grow

 La tierra esta rica

Con nuestra sangre

 Dieciocho Conejo esta satisfecho.

Seguramente ahora el maiz crecera

The earth is rich with our blood

We make sacrifice

The Will Sonnet

Is it your will that I will forget you?

Make this mountain of love like a molehill?

I will will what you will will me to do,

Even will that will my loosing you instill,

I will like a winter kill still loves' crop,

Will fill that task with sad sense of duty,

Teaching my will to know you will to stop,

Will use my quill to quill not your beauty.

If you will to banish your faithful fool,

And will willful will to purgatory,

When love is something will will not overrule,

Will will be enough to change this story?

If you will not will my love, then love wish

Will to love enough to will will vanquish.
